Professional Community

Professional community enhances technology integration and implementation. Channels of communication and collaboration should remain open within faculty communities if technology integration is to remain successful. Such environments will remain effective because dialogue concerning improvement and effective technology use will be fostered. This resource area provides tools that can be used to evaluate and improve the professional community environment of a school.

ETIP Cases

ETIP cases are online assignments that provide a common setting for applying the principles of educational technology integration and implementation, and analyzing the impact that a setting's context has on the format and potential effect of a desired change. Cases are based on the Educational Technology Integration and Implementation Principles and correlated to ISTE’s NETS-T standards. These ETIPS cases, like the resources within this content area, are organized by these six principles and provide an excellent opportunity to unite a group of teachers and facilitate a common understanding of how these six ideals might look in an educational setting. There is one case available for each principle in the ETIPS application but it can be set in one of nine schools: either an elementary, middle school, or high school in either a rural, suburban, or urban setting. This provides multiple opportunities to build professional community. Click on the Try ETIPS link to the left to get started.

Professional Community Evaluation Tools

The following section offers a list of helpful tools that can be used to evaluate the status of professional community in your organization and mark changes throughout the process of technological change. The tools area divided into the following sections: Integration Tools, Implementation Tools, and Leadership Tools. These lists are not exhaustive but represent some of the better options available to schools and school systems. Tool applicability will vary and largely depend on the individual needs and situation of your program.
